I was surprised by how well it showed, and feel it can be drunk over the course of the next 10 years. Medium-ruby colored, the Echezeaux displays a deep nose of berries and spice, and an elegant, floral (roses), cherry-filled, perfumed, medium-bodied personality. Delicious and easy to drink, this wine should be held for 4 years and consumed over the following 6-8 years. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided. Robert Parker 91
Perfumed, sexy black fruit aromas explode from the glass and the big, robust, structured, intense, full-bodied flavors display a wonderful sappy and spicy quality plus good if not special length. This is still moderately structured yet there is already a velvety quality to the finish that makes this really quite seductive and while the '95 Ech is certainly a quality effort, there is a small hole in the mid-palate that prevents this from rising to the next level. In short, delicious but not exceptional by the standards of this wine. Consistent notes. Burghound 89
Beautiful wine, with a hint of exotic rose petal, violet and oak aromas. Full-bodied, silky, showing nice mocha, spice and blackberry character, more fruit than terroir. Deftly made. Ripe, suave finish. More delicate and lighter than DRC's Grands Echézeaux. Drink now through 2005. –PM Wine Spectator 93 |
