1972 Romanee Conti - Pinot Noir

1972 Romanee Conti

DRC Richebourg # 06615
DRC bottle # 06615....... We recently acquired nine DRC bottles, from an ex-Oregon winery owner, all were purchased when he caught the Pinot bug, back in the 1980's. All the wines were kept in his cellar before being moved to his San Diego home in 2011.

Tasting note: (with thanks to Dr. Kevin Chan). Moderate but not complete bricking. This initially opened with a hint of funk that eventually blew off to reveal touches of spice and caramel characters to the mostly sous-bois suffused nose. There is unusually good richness in the context of what is typical for the vintage, indeed the solidly concentrated medium weight flavors possess a velvety mouth feel, all wrapped in a sappy, mineral-driven and impressively persistent finish where the only nit is a hint of dryness. I hadn't tried this in many years but it is holding up quite well and should continue to drink well for some years to come if you can find impeccably well-stored examples. Burghound 92
