The profound 1999 Cote Rotie is the finest I have ever tasted from Jamet. It is even better from bottle than it was from cask. There are 25,000 bottles of this saturated ruby/purple-colored effort. It possesses a striking perfume of roasted meats, violets, graphite, blackberries, raspberries, and cherry liqueur. The wine is smoky, intense, full-bodied, muscular, concentrated, layered, and dominated by ripe fruit, with the tannin well-hidden by the wealth of extract, glycerin, and fruit. It will be at its finest between 2004-2020.

Dark and still a touch tight, with a wall of bacony, mesquite-tinged toast holding the core of blackberry and fig fruit at bay. Lush, exotic fruit pushes through on the finish, with notes of musk, aged tobacco, roasted vanilla and hoisin sauce. The dark, toasty finish still needs more time to unwind fully. There's no Viognier, and, except for the 2002 vintage, this is never destemmed.--1999 Côte-Rôtie non-blind retrospective. Best from 2010 through 2025. 830 cases made. –JM
