2007 Jinetes Syrah Eagle Point Vineyard, Mendocino “Jinetes Syrah is made entirely from grapes grown in one of Mendocino's finest vineyards, the aptly named Eagle Point. At 1800 foot elevation, this vineyard is much cooler than the surrounding area, perfect for growing high quality wine grapes. This darkly colored wine has a rich aroma of ripe, dark fruit, with spice and cocoa notes. It has a very generous mouth-feel, with plenty of ripe plum-like dark fruit. The plumy fruit opens up with airing, revealing further berry and red fruit flavors, along with attractive spice and chocolate notes. While well-structured, the tannins remain dominated by the rich fruitiness, never getting out of hand. Like many wines from this fine vintage, the Jinetes is very nice to drink now and does not require extended cellaring.
