2008 Ehlers Estate 1886 Estate Napa Cabernet 100% Organic $89.99 The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon 1886 is a beautifully delineated wine with expressive aromatics and plenty of nuances. Blackberries, Chambord, spices, white flowers and licorice are some of the notes that emerge from this generous, fruit-driven Cabernet Sauvignon. This feminine, graceful Cabernet Sauvignon should continue to drink well for a decade or so. In 2008 the blend is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, aged in French oak barrels, 70% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. Robert Parker 93 pts.
A rich, dense, captivating style that serves up tiers of loamy earth, dried herb and currant, with black licorice, sage, cedar and mineral. Full-bodied, well-balanced and complex, with the flavors woven together on a chewy finish. Best from 2012 through 2021. 1,343 cases made. –JL Wine Spectator 92 pts.
Winemaker’s Notes: 2007 was a very dry year, with barely enough ground water to sustain the vines. We had an early spring followed by a long, beautiful, warm, but not hot summer. There were no adverse weather conditions heading into harvest. The drought gave us small berries with great intensity, and the idyllic weather provided the conditions for full maturity at lower sugars, terrific fruit flavors, and powerful and balanced red wines.
